Resident Evil – Code: Veronica is a survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom and released for the Dreamcast in 2000. It is the fourth major installment in the Resident Evil series and the first to debut outside a Sony PlayStation platform. The story takes place three months after the events of Resident Evil 2 (1998) and the concurrent destruction of Raccoon City as seen in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999). It follows Claire Redfield and her brother Chris Redfield in their efforts to survive a viral outbreak at both a remote prison island in the Southern Ocean and a research facility in Antarctica. The game retains the traditional survival horror controls and gameplay seen in previous series installments; however, unlike the pre-rendered backgrounds of past games, Code: Veronica utilizes real-time 3D environments and dynamic camera movement.

The roots of Code: Veronica's development can be traced back to an unsuccessful attempt to port Resident Evil 2 to the Sega Saturn. After producer Shinji Mikami and his team learned they would be unable to port the game, they began development on an original game which eventually became Code: Veronica. The game was initially intended to be the true sequel to Resident Evil 2 and is still referred to as such by its creators. The title of "Resident Evil 3" was given to what was originally a spin-off game being developed in tandem for the PlayStation. Claire was designed with a tougher appearance than in Resident Evil 2, with the reason being her past experiences in Raccoon City built her toughness and confidence. Unlike the American horror themes and settings of previous games in the series, Code: Veronica employs a setting in the Southern Ocean and a European gothic horror design. This is achieved through the use of Gothic architecture and art in addition to the writing style and story presentation.

Capcom announced Code: Veronica in August 1998 and released it in February 2000 after delays and a reduction in sales expectations due to the struggling Dreamcast platform. Sales were weak compared to series predecessors, but strong compared to other games on the system. The title received critical acclaim and had been considered both among the best Resident Evil games and Dreamcast games of all-time. Capcom released an updated version on PlayStation 2 and Dreamcast titled Code: Veronica X. The revised version included new cutscenes which revealed more details about the story, and it was later ported to the GameCube in addition to other platforms in later years. Code: Veronica was adapted for Capcom's Gun Survivor series with Resident Evil Survivor 2 – Code: Veronica (2002) and also later adapted for Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (2009).

"Jill Sandwich" is a quote (reQuote) derived from a humorous English translation choice in the original 1996 Resident Evil game.
Barry Burton tells that line to fellow S.T.A.R.S. member Jill Valentine after rescuing her from descending ceiling trap inside the Spencer Mansion.
The "Jill Sandwich" became a famous saying in the early fandom alongside "I have this" and "itchy tasty," which became an inside joke in other games. You can find this line referenced in these other games:
In Dead Rising (2006), there is a restaurant named "Jill's Sandwiches." In The Mercenaries Reunion DLC for Resident Evil 5 (2009), Barry possesses a melee attack called "Barry Sandwich." In the English translation of Resident Evil: Revelations 2 (2015), Claire Redfield jokes, "I was almost a Claire Sandwich." which was not present in the original Japanese script. In Dead By Daylight (2016), a power add-on for Nemesis is named "Jill's Sandwich." Do you like this reQuote? Leave us a comment. Thanks!

Raccoon Park was an attraction within the former midwestern mountain community of Raccoon City, located to the very north of the city, on the west bank of the Circular river.
The Raccoon General Hospital and Saint Michael Clock Tower were to the immediate south and southwest. Across the river were Umbrella's Incineration Disposal Plant P-12A and a junkyard.

While relatively small in size, Raccoon Park fulfilled many features. The southern part was a plaza for citizens to meet at; the north was a cemetery, and the east a pathway crossing the ponds towards a suspension bridge.
Below are some locations found within the Raccoon Park:
Park street Patrol room Front plaza Park Fountain Sewer Cemetery Cemetery cabin Graveyard Cabin Storeroom Operations room Pond passage Woodland path Suspension bridge In the leadup to the U.S.S. Alpha Team attack on Dr. William Birkin, the t-Virus had been slowly pouring out into Raccoon City in what became known as the Raccoon City Destruction Incident. Several residents were infected with the virus and collapsed into comas; mistaken for dead, they later rose from their graves on October 1, 1998. The cemetery itself was destroyed that day by a burrowing Grave Digger, which caused the ground to subside. Umbrella had set up a radio station in a nearby cabin at some earlier point in September, intent on relaying orders to Monitor agents from Umbrella HQ.

Meanwhile, at the eastern side, a UBCS Delta Platoon's Alpha Squad moved through the Hunter γ dominated pond area to search for the Nemesis-T Type.

Resident Evil 2, known in Japan as Biohazard 2, is a survival horror game developed and published by Capcom and released for the PlayStation in 1998. The player controls Leon S Kennedy and Claire Redfield, who must escape Raccoon City after its citizens are transformed into zombies by a biological weapon two months after the events of the original Resident Evil. The gameplay focuses on exploration, puzzles, and combat; the main difference from its predecessor is the branching paths, with each player character having unique storylines and obstacles.
Hideki Kamiya directed Resident Evil 2, and Shinji Mikami — director of the first Resident Evil — produced it. Resident Evil 2 was developed by a team of 40–50 over 21 months. The initial version of the game, commonly referred to as Resident Evil 1.5, differed drastically and was canceled when it was around two-thirds complete after Mikami decided it was inadequate. The final design introduced settings[clarification needed] and a more cinematic presentation.
Resident Evil 2 received praise for its atmosphere, setting, graphics and audio, and it has appeared on several lists of the best games ever made; however, its controls, voice acting, inventory system, and puzzles garnered some criticism. It is the most successful Resident Evil game for a single platform, selling over one million copies on PlayStation. It was ported to Windows, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, and GameCube, and a modified 2.5D version was released for the Game.com handheld. The story of Resident Evil 2 was retold and built upon in several later games and has been adapted into a variety of licensed works. It was followed by Resident Evil 3: Nemesis in 1999. A remake, also titled Resident Evil 2, will be released for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One in January 2019.
